# Independent App Reviews > Methodology-first review publication for consumer apps. Reproducible test protocols, raw accuracy data with confidence intervals, and conflict-of-interest disclosure on every review. No affiliate commissions. No sponsorships. No vendor relationships. Independent App Reviews is published from https://independent-app-reviews.org and was founded in 2019. The publication is led by Editor-in-Chief Priya Haverford (MS, RD), with an MD clinical reviewer, a biostatistics-trained data & methodology lead, and beat reviewers. Rankings are written by editorial reviewers; clinical and statistical claims are verified separately to keep verification independent of the recommendation. ## What we cover - Calorie & Nutrition — calorie counters, macro and micronutrient trackers, photo-AI loggers - Fitness & Training — workout, running, and strength-training apps - Health & Wearables — health-platform and wearable companion apps and integrations - Productivity — notes, tasks, focus, and workflow apps - Finance — budgeting, banking, and investing apps - AI Tools — consumer AI assistants and tools - Wellness & Mental Health — meditation, sleep, and mental-wellness apps ## Editorial principles All reviews are editorial work by named, credentialed authors, with full bylines and disclosed beats. We do not publish AI-generated content as editorial. We accept no affiliate commissions, no sponsorships, and have no vendor relationships. We acquire apps at retail price through our own accounts. Where an author has a prior relationship with a developer, the relationship is disclosed at the top of the review. Every measurable claim on this site links back to a re-runnable dataset, and no point estimate is published without a confidence interval. Our scoring scale runs 0 to 10; we do not award a 10. Editor's Picks are reviews scored 8.0 or higher. ## Accuracy methodology (calorie & nutrition apps) Calorie-tracker accuracy is reported as pooled MAPE (mean absolute percentage error) across a panel of n=40 weighed reference meals anchored to USDA FoodData Central, each MAPE reported with a 95% BCa-bootstrap confidence interval. Our flagship calorie review is built on the openly licensed Calorie Tracker Lab 2026 benchmark dataset (CC BY 4.0), independently re-analysed. Apps with no published, independently validated accuracy figure are flagged and are not ranked above validated apps. ## Key resources - About: https://independent-app-reviews.org/about/ - Ethics & Independence: https://independent-app-reviews.org/about/ethics/ - Methodology (how we score apps): https://independent-app-reviews.org/methodology/ - Editorial team: https://independent-app-reviews.org/people/ - All reviews: https://independent-app-reviews.org/reviews/ - Flagship: Best Calorie Tracking Apps (2026) — https://independent-app-reviews.org/articles/best-calorie-tracking-apps/ - RSS: https://independent-app-reviews.org/feed.xml - Sitemap: https://independent-app-reviews.org/sitemap-index.xml - Contact: editorial@independent-app-reviews.org ## Editorial team - Priya Haverford, MS, RD — Editor-in-Chief, nutrition & health apps - Daniel Okonkwo, MD — Clinical Reviewer, clinical accuracy & health claims - Marisol Vance, MSc Biostatistics — Data & Methodology Lead, benchmarking & statistics - Theo Liang — Senior Reviewer, fitness, wearables & productivity - Nadia Ferreira — Reviewer, finance, AI tools & mental wellness
